Professor Julian Eugeniusz Kulski – ‘Goliat’ major protagonist of the Warsaw insurrection died yesterday at the age of 92.

Professor Julian Eugeniusz Kulski, “hero of the Warsaw Uprising, architect of the World Bank, academic lecturer and unquestionable authority of several generations of Poles, passed away yesterday” at the age of 92 years old, announced his foundation on Twitter. OTD – 80 years ago the Warsaw Ghetto’s wall was closed.

On October 12th, 1940 after Lublin and Łódź, was decided the creation of the Warsaw Ghetto, and fills with cynicism, the day of the Jewish celebration of Yom Kippur. The Germans announced to the Jews of the city that they will have until the end of the month to “move” into the new Jewish district where nobody really knows the boundaries yet, 1 month later, on November 16th, the wall was closed. Maria Kwaśniewska the Polish 1936 Berlin Olympics Medalist was born on this day 107 years ago – she refused to give the nazi salute and helped Polish and Jewish people during WWII.

Maria Kwaśniewska was born on August 15th, 1913 in Łódź. Javelin throw athlete she won the bronze medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. During the medal ceremony the protocol obliged to give the nazi’s salute. Today, Warsaw celebrated the 76th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.

Like every year, Varsovians gathered in several parts of the capital to celebrate the heroes of the uprising. The two main points are the Rondo Dmowskiego next to the Palace of Culture and Science and the Rotunda and the Vistula.
