
Why? Today is the FAT THURSDAY “TÅ‚usty Czwartek”. Fat Thursday is celebrated once a year, on the last Thursday before the Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. On this day poles eat sweets and cakes (1200 calories), but the bestseller is the ‘PÄ…czek‘ the famous traditional poles doughnuts. In Warsaw people queue up to purchase pÄ…czki. Founded in 1925, one of the most famous pastry shops in Warsaw and Poland is ZagoździÅ„ski (Górczewska 15 – Wola), supplier of the Marshal Józef PiÅ‚sudski, they sell nearly 10 000 pÄ…czki every TÅ‚usty Czwartek.
