On this day, June 17th, 1992, only three years after the collapse of communism, opened the first McDonald’s in Poland. The restaurant was located in central Warsaw on the corner of Świętokrzyska and Marszalkowska streets in the former SEZAM commercial Center. The restaurant was officially inaugurated by Jacek Kuroń, then Minister of Labour and Social Policy of the Republic of Poland. After 22 years of operation the restaurant was closed on September 30, 2014, and demolished. A new McDonald’s was inaugurated on February 2016 next to the previous one and the SEZAM commercial Center is now a modern new building.
In 1992, a BIG MAC costed PLN 25 (PLN 3,5 in 2020*), PLN 17 (PLN 2,4 in 2020*) or a double hamburger and PLN 12 (PLN 1,7 in 2020*) for a cold shake or an hamburger PLN 9 (PLN 1,2 in 2020*). * calculated with inflation between 1992 and 2020. The first day the restaurant established a world record for the opening of a new McDonald’s with 13 300 orders.
